Explore uses for the internet, technology, and social media to augment best teaching practices and engage learners of all types. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn about different types tools and investigate how you can effectively employ them in your classroom. Special consideration will be given to augmenting traditional practices, measuring the success of using the internet and technology in the classroom, and creating a safe online learning environment while maintaining standards of professionalism.
Integrating Arts Through Contextualized Learning – Tracey Rombough

As part of Ontario’s Specialist High Skills Major in the Arts, students complete Contextualized Learning Assignments (CLAs) to integrate their interest in the Arts with other core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Business Studies. These ten hour units allow the students to reinforce their understanding of other disciplines through their area of strength: music, visual arts, drama, and photography. In this interactive workshop, Tracey will discuss her approach to poetry through multiple disciplines. If time permits, she will also cover approaches to feedback and assessment of the unit. (If you play an instrument, you may want to bring one along for the fun!

Surviving and Thriving When Teaching Multiple Grades - Mark Sonnemann
This workshop will explore the dynamics of split and multiple grade classrooms. Teacher candidates will be shown how to plan and teach for classrooms of this kind, and will have an opportunity to create a lesson plan for use in a split grade classroom. Teacher candidates will also receive resources to assist in their professional development in this area.

Explore First, Explain Later - Eric Finn
A workshop where ideas and approaches to teaching science in an active and authentic manner to high school students will be discussed. Participants will be provided the opportunity to participate and reflect on a sample of activities that help students actively learn science.
