Conference Chair: Natalie Tsui

Hi delegates! My name is Natalie Tsui and I am the Chair of QCE 2012. I am super excited to be meeting you all in January and I look forward to corresponding with you in the upcoming months. I am in my 3rd year of Concurrent Education at Queen’s studying English and history at the intermediate/senior level. I have always found education to be a fascinating and rewarding field and I strongly believe that “teachers touch lives”.

As conference chair, I oversee the entire planning process of QCE and I am the main contact person for all delegates. So please do not hesitate to contact me at qce.chair@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns. I am incredibly privileged to be working with such a talented executive team and we all want you to enjoy an inspiring and engaging conference!

This year at QCE we want to explore what it means to be a teacher of the 21st century. As students face the new
demands and pressures of the 21st century, the role of the teacher as an agent of positive change becomes increasingly important. QCE hopes to  shed light on what trends and tools to look forward to as well as the some of the challenges we are likely to face. So delegates, prepare to be empowered by the new trend of 21st century education. See you in January!

Director of Logistics: Philip Lloyd

My name is Philip Lloyd and I am the Director of Logistics for QCE 2012. It is my job to arrange the keynote speakers and workshop presenters for the Conference, in addition to helping organize the schedule for the weekend. I am in my third year Con-Ed at Queen’s, studying geography and history at the intermediate/senior level. I am really excited for QCE 2012…for a number of reasons. Education is my passion…ever since I was in elementary school and somebody asked me “what do you want to be  when you grow up?”, my answer was always the same. While my friends yelled out “cowboy”, “police officer”, or “Spiderman”, I had one answer that has never changed…“teacher”. I am also excited for QCE 2012 because I am excited to learn more about teaching in the 21st century.

The 21st century has already proven to be a time of rapid and ongoing advancements and change in our society and it is up to educators to keep up. After all, we are the ones that are moulding the next generation…we need to make sure that our students are prepared for what’s ahead of them. Of course, we will never have all the answers. However, it is my hope that the Queen’s Conference on Education 2012 will be nothing but an informative and inspirational step on your road to being the best 21st century educator! If you have any questions, comments, or just want to say hi, please come up to me during the Conference or send me an e-mail at qce.logistics@gmail.com. Have fun!!

Director of Marketing: Danielle Wilson

Hello Delegates! My name is Danielle Wilson, and I am the Director of Marketing for the Queen’s Conference on Education 2012. I am responsible for both the promotion and advertisement of the conference, and am the one who contacts all of you to attend to our weekend of inspiration in January! I also advocate social connectedness, a value of QCE 2012, through the planning of the Banquet and Social events  for both internal and external Delegates. I am a fourth year Concurrent Education student at Queen’s, who is very fortunate and excited to be able to explore 21st Century Education skills with you.

The reason why I am so fortunate is that for a significant time in my childhood I was often bullied for my appearance, being called names like “Chicken Sticks”. This made me quiet and reserved when it came to expressing my emotions. I had close friends of course, but the only people who truly inspired me to come out of my shell were my teachers. They enabled me to realize my own talents and ability to make others smile simply through paying attention to who I was as a person, versus just being a student. Often many say it is the small things that count, and growing up I appreciated the small things my teachers did, which has made me who I am today. As a member of the QCE 2012 Executive team, I want delegates to acquire the skills and knowledge to nurture the needs of the 21st century changing student in order to make a positive difference in one’s life. That is why I cannot wait to meet you all and share the experience with you in January! Feel free to contact me at qce.marketing@gmail.com if you have any questions :)

Director of Communications: Catherine Franey

Hi everyone!  My name is Catherine Franey and I am the Director of Communications for QCE. It’s my job to organize and host fundraisers along with getting sponsors for conference. I’m in my 3rd year of Concurrent Education majoring in chemistry with a general in math hoping to teach at the I/S level.  I’m super excited for conference for a number of reasons! Firstly, of course I can’t wait to meet all of you and secondly, because it’s our 10th Anniversary! I haven’t always wanted to be a teacher. Sure it was fun to write on the blackboard as a kid but I was convinced that my future lied in dentistry. It wasn’t until I started tutoring in high school that I realized I had a passion for helping people understand things (whether it was their math homework or the subway map).  Everyone on Exec has been working really hard and I can’t wait for you guys to see what we have planned! If you’re interested in possibly donating to conference or just want to chat feel free to contact me at qce.communications@gmail.com. See you in January!

Director of Finance: Jody Patterson

Hi Everyone! My name is Jody Patterson, and I’m in my fourth year of Con-Ed at Queen’s. I’m a chemistry major and hope one day to teach at the primary/junior level. It wasn’t always this way, I was once very sure I was going to teach high school but last year I realized that it just wasn’t for me. The switch has been amazing for me and I’m now completely sure teaching elementary school is what I want to do for the rest of my life!

I’m the Director of Finance for QCE 2012. which is really just a fancy way of saying I deal with anything to do with money, specially  making sure we don’t spend too much of it. I’m also here to support the rest of the exec team to make this year’s conference the best ever! If you have any questions, comments about the weekend or anything in general feel free to email me at qce.finance@gmail.com. Hope to see you in January!
