Tyler Durman

Tyler Durman is best known for his ability to offer wisdom through laughter and storytelling. As an author and speaker, his live presentations reach more than 250,000 people each year…teachers, parents, teenagers, and student leaders alike. Tyler has spoken at over 7800 schools, conferences and events, and to more than five million teenagers. This has given him the unique opportunity to be invited behind the scenes and into the lives of young people, in hundreds of one-on-one conversations. As a result he understands their world to a depth that most adults rarely see.
Tyler is a father, was born in Africa, has lived much of his life in Hawaii, and currently resides in Laguna Beach, California. He is a terrible dancer who loves to surf, and is so entertaining that he has been featured at Universal Studios in Hollywood and on network television. He is the author of Birthday Suit, a collection of short stories that will be available wherever books are sold in the spring of 2012. He has a Masters Degree with an emphasis in Counseling, loves life, and will help you look honestly into your own heart, while keeping a smile on your face.

Moulded by Passion: Creating, maintaining and sustaining a profound and inspiring resilient teaching practice
What does it take to step into the world of teaching? What does it take to remain on the cutting edge of educational excellence? What is required to have a powerful impact in your teaching practice? Despite the myriad factors and structures that often exist to “reign teachers in”, excellent in education does not need to be bridled by externalities. Indeed, the power of teaching comes from primarily understanding self with sufficient clarity to determine a pathway that truly excites and inspires you, to recognize that excitement in others and work to awaken it in those who have not yet realized its power. Join this journey and discovery through anecdotes of lived-experiences how much what you do will have an enduring impact.
Kingsley Hurlington is a teacher in every sense of the word. Teaching is his passion and this is realized in his broad range of experience working with learners from kindergarten to university for over 15 years. His background in computer science, geography, geotechnology and adolescent behaviour has culminated in a range of work including course development in geotechnology training, research in rural adolescents, and authorship of multiple textbooks in use in secondary schools across Canada. Currently, Kingsley works an educator while continuing his doctoral studies. Through his doctoral work in Canadian Studies, he hopes to better understand the resilience of rural teens. Kingsley recognizes that great teachers must be great learners and is always prepared to be “schooled” by his four children or wife. He resides in Peterborough, Ontario but dreams of traveling to every nook and cranny of Canada.
